Windows 7 Windows 7

How important an upgrade is Windows 7? Is it evolution, revolution, or a mix of both? These and many other such questions have been floating around the Web for many months now, but with just a few hours remaining till the launch of Windows 7, all eyes now turn to Microsoft. Sure, Bing wasn’t as useful (or successful) as many might have hoped, but Windows 7, seems to be the ace in the hole. Ever get the feeling that every other Windows OS system released seems to get it right?

Not sure I’d agree that Bing wasn’t useful or successful. The fact that Bing was able to have two straight months of share gain after its release is a pretty exceptional claim. Bing is a brand new search engine, and after the initial period of people trying it wears off it is to be expected that it will return to a more natural swing in share change. The time to watch Bing for success is most certainly not the first 4-5 months of its existence, but rather the months after those where the market finally has a chance to truly consider switching.

As far as Windows 7 goes, having used most of them in my lifetime I can say that 7 is definitely one of the better Windows releases in the operating system’s history. Again though, the real key is how it does in the long run, not the mad rush to try it out.
